This was a kick-back day with a fun cooking demo from the chef on board ship and an afternoon walk into town. The town is famous for it's castle, built by Richard the Lion Heart for defensive purposes between 1196-1198. Really fast construction for that era. When you need a high defensive position I guess you do it fast! (ps: he lost the battle anyway) I did not walk up the hill to the castle, but I DID support the economy of the town with an antique plate and a little toy for Harper.
Note the photos from the church which is under repair. The wood structure is supporting the arch which has some cracks. What is interesting, is that is how they built the gothic arches in the first place. First the wood, then the stone, and once the keystone was in place they removed the wood. Clever!
